Birds
not of a feather still oft flock together There's a kind of fraternity of avian interspecies brothers Take terns I've seen common, royal, elegant and skimmers in a whirling dervish over Bolsa Chica wetland berms Of swallows I've taken a few in sight of barn, cliff and tree whilst hawking the Wintersburg Channel insect upflow Of icterids Blackbirds, cowbirds and orioles might spring up with the reeds at our urban Irby Park wet midsts Of hummingbirds Margie's Laguna Beach feeder hosted dozens of Anna's, Allen's and Rufous at the top of the world Of shorebirds Sanderlings, avocets, willets and herons stalk shallows in view from what the Brightwater Bluff trails confer Of divers Cormorants, pelicans, gulls and gannets submarined through fish schools for us at the Cayucos pier |
